Wax, polish and/or 303 - exterior

Recommended Posts

This article had me thinking about the subject again.

I get my boat back tomorrow from the dealer and I want to protect it before the season starts. Last year I waxed it and did a 303 coating (Boomers idea) [where's he been anyway?] and was happy with the way the gelcoat held up. Everytime it comes out of the water, I use water spot stuff too.

I know I'm going to use micro fiber towels in lieu of terry cloth this year, but would like some suggestions on how to prep the hull for the summer.

I give it a good polish and then a wax all the way around followed by a second wax a couple weeks later. The polish will bring out the colors nicely and the wax keeps it looking that way and makes it easier to clean. I have never tried 303 but I do clean with the quick wax everytime I pull out.

McGuires Flagship marine wax, a couple of coats will keep it looking great. I did the 303 thing a couple of seasons ago, it looks great until it gets wet or you wash it, then its gone. Kind of expensive for a temporary look.

It's a spray on liquid like 303 that I use after every trip to the lake. My dealer turned me on to it and it works great. One of the guys at the dealership told me that some of their customers only use Babe's and never wax. Besides boat bright, Babe's also makes a waterspot remover and a vinyl cleaner.

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone else have trouble waxing the hull underneath the trailer? What do you do about the area on the bunks?

you don't need to wax the wetted surface.
