I am not sure what the stock prop is, but i upgraded to a 1235, which made a world of difference, but i am about to try a 2315, which i understand is the way to go with the vlx 350hp. michigan altitude....

This is what I did at sea level , seems to be sipping gas as well , need to fill up after next/3rd trip on new prop to really tell

It gets 4000-4200 of lead , ballast  plus wedge and two people in boat on plsne fir Wakeboarding with some struggle  , my 1235 couldn’t ever do that.

I have the 2419 and it's a freakish monster. I would say do the 2313. If you ever get to the west side I can take you out. I am going to have my prop re-cupped to a 2313 and hope for a tiny bit more top end. Nobody needs this much pull, but it is fun!

Edit: If you ever want to swap for a weekend I would consider it. I am curious about the 1235.

What is your top end at 5000 rpm with 2315 and two people in empty boat?

didnt go to 5000 but it was looking like35- 37, down from the 40-42 fir the 1235

be aware, you can’t throw a full load of ballast wedge and lead snd s big crew at the 1235 as it won’t get to surf speed

no way you can get full ballast and lead and people on plane for Wakeboarding  max is around 2500 ballast , lead snd people plus wedge , 2500 is probably generous and it will take quite s long time to plane

I've got an 08 VLX and was told that I could not run a 15" prop with my hull. Have you had any issues? I am considering the 2315 or the 2419. You are the best bet I have found for some real world info/results. Currently running a 1235.

I have had the 15 inch on for 3 seasons and hundreds of hours with no negative effects. The only time I want another prop is the 1 week a year I spend on reallly large (over 10 miles long) lakes. On my lake I just want the low end grunt.

You will hit the rev limiter at about 38 with this prop.

Someone lied to you.  Malibu has NEVER sold a V drive that won't safely clear a 15" prop.  Done, end of story.

I have a 2011 vride. Same hull as your 08 vlx.  I upgraded to 2419 from 1235... plenty of space between prop and hull.

Here is a thread I started when I made the switch if you are looking for more info.

There seems to be a lot of prop discussion lately, with suggestions that may not include the latest and greatest stuff available from Acme. I decided to compile a list, with the following criteria:
- Acme 4-blade only
- Only stuff that will work with a Malibu V-drive (though the bigger props may/may not have sufficient clearance for your hull)
- Nothing that will have less pull or diameter than a 381, which is the lowest pull prop Malibu seemed to have put on these boats

Props will be listed in weakest to strongest pull at each prop diameter. As a BASIC guide, the lower the pitch at a given diameter, the more aggressive the prop will be but with a higher RPM across the board. Cup is the same way, the lower the cup, the more aggressive compared to the same pitch/diameter. Diameter helps reduce prop slip at the added expense of drag – it becomes more important in very heavy ballast setups and high HP setups (LS3/LSA/8.1L).

**Note, this is based on my best guess from prop specs only. I am not an expert. Results may vary hull to hull. Tops speed/RPM may be different from how well it pulls – this is a general guide that can hopefully help others out.

Acme Part Number – Diameter x Pitch / Cup

381 – 13.5” x 17.5” / .105
275 – 13.5” x 17.5” / .080

2847 - 15.5" x 15.5" / .075
2923 - 15.5" x 13" / .105
2921 - 15.5" x 12.5" / .075

I pulled all of these specs off of Wakemakers and I’m sure I’m missing a few. Those in bold are props mentioned/used regularly. Please let me know if I am missing any worth adding and I will modify this list. If you feel any of those not bolded are choices that are really worth considering, let me know that as well. Of course let me know if I have any mistakes on this chart so I can correct them.

Also to note, none of this is comparing diameter to a different diameter. For max pulling power, the 15” props are the current thing to have.

EDIT:  List updated 5/11/16 as a number of new props have been added.

Here is a listing of OJ Props in 15", for posterity's sake

Hi guys I just bought a 2001 VLX Sunsetter with a Monsoon 325hp and plan to be putting in around 3000lb ballast and was planning on putting on a new prop.

I would say I will be using this boat for surfing, slalom, hydro foiling (surf/ride) as the primary sports I would say it will be a mix of all 3.  The boat is also on a lake which is about 15 miles long, we rarely cruise the whole way but we for sure do go 5-10 mile trips or cruise around the lake so I'm looking for a prop that will work for surfing under the full ballasts and I would also like a prop that I can still slalom behind at 33ish mph along with just general cruising around the lake.

I had been reading that the Acme 2315 sounded like a good choice for the 01 VLX and Monsoon 325 for surfing but not sure about the other uses.  I also found various details on different props so knowing real world experience of people with this hull and setup would be great to hear :)

Thank you

i have the same boat as you and don’t use any ballast except for the wedge and people. Often about 4 adults and 3 to 4 teenagers. I chose the oj 905 which is a 14.75 x 15.25.    The slalom rpm at 30 and 32 is around 3300 and 3400 give or take. Less than 3500 for sure. For surfing it seems fine but I manually try to hold 10.5 and 11 mph . Wakeboarding I try to hold 18. A lower pitch would make hand holding the speed a bit easier mostly while wakeboarding. Surfing I can hold it fine seems like. Surf rpm is around 2700 ish rpm. I could probably be happy with just a tad less pitch so that 30 mph slalom was at say 3400 to 3500. I think the old 14.5 x 14.25 props would run 3700 or 3800 rpm at 30 mph. Too much.rpm and fuel for my taste. I don’t run max rpm so top end speed is of no use to me since I don’t barefoot. 36 mph is about as fast as I go even cruising or outrunning a storm but I did not want to run over 3600 rpm since that’s a big drain on fuel. This may help in your search for a good prop.

2315 is pretty aggressive for this hull.  If you are looking for an aggressive prop, do a 2313 instead.  Get at least a slight bit more speed with the additional cup.

That's not enough prop for him if he is going to run any real ballast.  As for holding speed - that's what Perfect Pass is for!

I recently picked up an '08 23LSV with a 2419.  Obviously, it is fantastic for surfing, but I am wondering if it too much prop for us.  We only run full MLS and 400 piggybacks (2,150lbs total).  Our typical crew is 4 adults and 6 kids.  Our typical cruise speed is 22 mph at 3500 rpms.

I am thinking about putting on the spare 1235 from my old VLX.  I am curious how much difference I will notice while surfing.  I wish I had a 2247/2249 to try out.  I will report back what I experience.
