New Malibu owner pkg says no vinyl protectants

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2014 VLX. In the owners package is a card from the vinyl material manufacturer with cleaning and care info. It specifically states no silicone based protectants are recommended and that they will slowly damage the finish by leaching plasticizers. So I called the 800 number to see what they WOULD recommend. The Customer Service guy says they do not have a recommended product, although some time back they supported 303, but no longer do.

Has anyone seen this? I know 303 is well respected by consumers and I used it on previous boats. I would like to hear from memebers on what other options are out there and what have you learned from either Malibu or Spradling international, the vinyl manufacturer (www.spradlingvinyl.com).

:dontknow: I have used 303 on my boat from the get go! It looks like new and no seam damage at this point. But I have not seen the new 2014 recommendations. I wonder if the vinyl make up has changed?

I'd be calling malibu directly on this and documenting the conversation. If properly cared for I don't see why bu vinyl can't go 10+ years with average use, not a chance if nothing was ever put on it, imo.

I am guessing 303 no longer pays Malibu a placement fee for the endorsement in the owner's manual. Although I don't understand why it still exits in the Axis manual - perhaps different editions/print dates.

Good suggestion to contact Malibu direct.
