Throttle question?

So I got the boat back from the shop the saturday and was out for the first test run.While crossing a wave the throttle surged real fast and then the throttle handle fell forward and was just loose and would not go above idle.Found that the throttle cable had came off the throttle and the round spring had came off also. Got the cable back in and the round spring hooked back to the cable.My question is how did this come out and is this all that keeps the throttle cable hooked to the throttle controller is just the round spring? 2006 vlx with Morse/teleflex control. Thanks in advance.

No they were working on the vdrive ,and I think i found the problem broke tension spring found that on an older thread on here and looked and sure enough it was broke.

I am having a similar issue on my 06VLX. My throttle won't hold at speed and "falls" wide open. I saw an old thread a while back that mentioned the spring may be shot. Curious as to where you got more information on the new spring? Any help would be much appreciated!
