putting enclosed cooling on 91' 350 chev

Hi all,

I have a 91 Euro f3 with the 350 chev mercruiser engine (quadjet carb) with an open cooling system On it and I would like to convert in to an enclosed system as we often ski in brackish water, and I also hear you save fuel with an enclosed or freshwater system. Has anyone converted one over? Wanting to know what's needed, how easy/hard it is and Did it improve fuel economy? I also want to put a hose fitting for running the boat at home in, is this an easy task? Any opinions/information is helpful!

Thanks In advance!

Check out this thread for tips on how I added half closed cooling: http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic/46975-1999-monsoon-ii-12-fresh-water-conversion/?hl=%2B1999+%2Bmonsoon.

You will have to find a kit that will fit under your hood, but you have a lot of kits to select from. I bought one of Monitor's high performance kits from www.perfprotech.com.

I'm not sure why you think your fuel economy will improve, except maybe that the kit uses a 160* thermostat. You can always use one of those without an exchanger.

Also, look in the maintenance forum for the recent fake a lake postings for some flush adapter ideas.

Thanks for the reply mate, your! Thread is very helpful! I spoke to one person who put it on his boat with the same engine and he said they had a significant improvement on their fuel economy as the engine is always running at its optimum temp. Was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
