Trailer tire pressure?

Recommended Posts

I was checking my tire pressure last week on the trailer, it's a tandem axle with 14" wheels and they were all at about 32-35 psi. Max pressure is 50 lbs, I aired them up to 44-45 lbs.

Does this sound about right?

Trailer tires should be at max cold pressure to get the greatest load carrying capability. In your case...50 psi.

Good advice. Under-inflation is the #1 reason for tire failures...

Yep, had to go with the old school 14's, for pricing and I don't think the boat would have fit with 18's... I have about 3/4" clearance. Would have been super close.

Your 18's do look sick... Maybe in my next life when I have a shop with a 10' door and I live on a lake :-)

Just wondering, do you guys "max out" the pressure on you car/truck tire also?

Yes, but only when loading it. With my 3/4 tons I would max the tire pressure before loading the gooseneck. Otherwise ran closer to what the truck sticker said for tire pressure

.

No...because you typically do not need the max capacity for the car tires, and it would make for a very harsh ride.

Only if I want uneven tire wear. That will result in the center of your tire wearing out first in most cases.
