My thermostat surprise

Recommended Posts

Hopefully someone else will chime in to verify the cone up thing. I remember mine had hard to read stamping on it that pointed the correct direction.

I just did mine a week ago and it was cone up. This was on a pcm.

Thanks guys. I also verified the direction and placement with skidim. Parts are on order for a new circulation pump and temp sensor. Wish me luck!

What lead you to the circulation pump?

Process of elimination.

The impeller is new, I checked all of the pipes for restrictions, the thermostat is new, I am replacing temperature sensor, what else is there in a cooling system :).

To be honest I am not sure it actually is overheating! It could be a bad temp sensor, it could be a bad gauge. But I think when they go bad they are way off not ~30 degrees high. And of the connection is bad it reads low not high.

So I figured for 95$ I will go ahead and swap the circulating pump too. It doesn't look too hard to get to/replace (famous last words!).

My boat was always reading 170-180. I changed sensors, checked all lines. After going through every wire on the boat & cleaning the terminals it started reading at a steady 160. I used a laser thermometer & shot it right at the threads of the sensor & temp was very close 150-158 depending on how / close I got the laser. You may have the same problem.
