Engine cover cupholders RLXi

I have a problem I can't figure out.

I have an '04 RLXi.

The engine cover has 3 cupholders.

The cupholder on the port side will only go in (down) about halfway.

Halfway down it hits the air filter (at least I assume it's the air filter).

Everything looks like it was designed to be the way it is.

It looks terrible, and the cupholder is unusable.

Is there some kind of a plug that people use instead of the floating cup holder?

Or maybe a shorter cupholder?

I can't be the only one with this problem.

Happy to take pictures if this makes no sense.

Is the engine a Monsoon 340 like mine? If so, perhaps someone has fitted a non-standard arrangement air filter? The correct one is an offset, eccentric arrangement that should, per the previous post, be able to change it's alignment when rotated. Make sure it's in the most downward orientation.

If the filter is symmetrical and makes no difference where it's rotated, you have the wrong filter...

This picture may help.
