Stuck on the lake

Well I'm broke down on Lake Pleasant... again. Not sure what's up. Just transferred ballast from regular side to goofy. Dash kinda wigged out and everything stopped. No power to dash, but the ballast pumps still run. (They are on a dedicated circuit) this has happened before and I thought it was the ballast bag putting pressure on the battery terminal. I built a box to protect them. Battery is in port side locker. Prior to today this has only happened when port ballast was full. Today it is starboard. Battery is fully charged, safety lanyard attached, no breakers or fuses blown. Everything factory on the boat is dead, additional add on circuits remain functional. Any thoughts?

IIRC - there is a circuit breaker back on the electrical box of the engine / try resetting it. You might have already checked this one though

Use a volt meter or test lamp and start at the battery, then follow the primary leads to the engine, and finally to the breakers/fuses/switches. Visually inspect each connection also, and fix anything that looks or acts suspect.

Also, don't assume that anything is good. Test each item in the path. I had to bypass a key switch 10 miles offshore once when it decided that it had taken enough water for a lifetime. It *looked* fine, but it was done.

Update:

I drained all the ballast and waited 40 min. The boat is alive again. Not sure why, I didn't touch any thing else. This is the same way it acted the other two times.

Had a similar experience with my previous boat (2001 Malibu Sunsetter). After getting stuck a few times on the lake I figured out that the ignition wire was loose where it connected to the buss bar under the dash.

If you have sacs and there is a curcuit breaker make sure the bag is not tripping out when the weight shifts. Mine has a 50 Amp fuse back by my isolation switch.
