Speaker Selector Switch

Looking for a little help here. My buddy wants to have removable rear speakers for when he's anchored in a cove. He will have 4 inboats powered by a 2 channel amp. Is there a simple switch that will transfer sound from a pair of the inboats to the rear speakers once they are installed?

Because you only need to switch the positive wires (all the negative speakers wires can remain intact) all you need is one of any double-throw double-pole switch. And those switches are available in every variety whether contura, rocker, toggle, etc. I would probably go with a nice 15 amp marine switch so that I would have some beefy terminals to work with.

I've also done it with four horn relays, a couple of diodes, and a remote mounted switch.

For removable aft speakers I have always mounted a concealed female binding post in each side storage compartment (L & R of the engine compartment) under the pads. Just lift the pad and plug in the male banana jack. A Neutrik connector set would work also.

David is absolutely right.

The best would be to put the switch at the amp and run new wires for the external speakers to the back.

I love the Neutrik connectors but a banana might break loose easier if someone tripped on it. Neutrik is very strong and will hold on when snagged.

He may also consider adding an amp. He might want the speakers in the boat on along with the external speakers. you can get a pretty cheap two channel amp these days.
