Very well kept, wakeboard tower, clean, mechanic owned, runs smooth and beautiful, shiny and my favorite color ;-) BUT has 685 hours on it:-( He is asking $16,500, said he would negotiate. Comes with a barefoot boom, cover and top, newly furnished seats. the only think I don't like is there isn't seating in the front.

new speakers, ipod hook up....It's a super sick boat. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?!?!?? PLEASE AND THANK YOU

also 16.5k for a closed bow D drive is way too much money IMO. i got a 99 VLX for 14.5k this last off season. you can find that boat for around 10k or less pretty standard.

really check out around here and on wakeworld. there is a wealth of knowledge. but the main things we need to know to help you are

budget

what do you want to use it for ski/wake/surf/etc. and how much of each

where you're located/ how far you''re willing to go to get it.

how many people you will regularly have out on it

onlyinboards is a good place to start.

Some crew members are more diligent at scouring the globe to find the best deal. But don't let that discourage you and don't be worried about the hours if the boat has been maintained and cared for over the years.

Too much, but post some pics or the add.

@dreamingbig: 685 hours is not a concern, that means the boat has less than 15,000 nautical miles on it assuming even an aggressive running cycle. I have seen and there are some pix posted on TMC of engines pulled apart at 800+ hours and the bores look perfect. If you are at all concerned, have the mechanic do a leak down test.

Upside to the boat is the color and condition, the downside is being a closed bow you will find a smaller resale market for it. I would get the NADA value for it, add what you think the color / condition / new skins mean to you and subtract the resale potential to determine what you feel it's worth.

I foot and ski behind a couple of mid 90's Responses and they are great boats, the slalom and barefoot wakes are fantastic. FYI, that year Response will not have a trunk, although the rear seat can be removed leaving a nice, short stepover to the platform. A closed bow Response tends to be owned by a purist and I would tend to think it would be well maintained.

I don't think the hours are much to be worried about at all. I had an impellar fail, which led to an overheat, which led to engine damage. We are getting the engine rebuilt, and the guy doing it (Sgt1970442 from this site) said that the engine was in remarkable condition, showing very little wear. I have about 650 hours on my boat. So, odds are, if that one has been cared for it's engine is in great shape too.

Edit: but $16.5k is really high. That should be around $11.5k tops, in fantastic shape.

Where are you guys seeing this thing?

Deductive reasoning.

'96 Malibu in the title.

Response in his info by his avatar.

No bow seating in his first post.

You don't have your Bu Crew detective cap on?

new steer cables, fresh oil change, custom marine stereo and speakers, zero flex flyer tower, stainless steel prop, new battery, clean enough I could eat off of the bottom of the boat. He also said he would do any work needed on it. I am a single 36 year old lady that grew up water skiing and just learned how to wakeboard and surf a few years ago. I have been living in Colorado and moved back to my home town that only has summer going on for it. To be honest, I hate sitting around on my parents pontoon and watching tubing...I think it's the lamest thing ever and being healthy and active is a number one priority in my book.

I am wanting to mainly surf and wakeboard on it. I also would love to learn how to barefoot, considering it is a barefoot boat but the boom is also good for training my nieces and nephew on how to wakeboard.

Some friends are telling me it's too small to wakeboard??? well, surfing will be out if that's the case...

I can't find anything of the sort nearly as cheap, my budget was $10,000 but this is just too good to pass up.

I want to offer him 12,000....is this too much? Considering he is asking 16-5....?? Will he be offended?

I will post some pictures as soon as I figure that out:-)
