5.7 Hemi Gas Milage

I''ve got an opportunity to buy an '07 Dodge Laramie 4x4 1/2 ton w/ a 5.7 Hemi and have been hearing horror stories regarding gas mileage. Does anyone have any experience with this? My reports have suggested 8-10 around town (city). I'm not sure I want to go there. I would be putting les than 10,000 miles/yr on it so I'm not sure how much difference it will actually make. I've always been a GM person and am only looking at this Dodge Ram because it is at a very good price.

If the mileage is that bad (I've heard it is bad but no specifics) I would go with something else. The Ram interiors of those years is awful compared to everything else out there. If that mileage is true you can get the same with the Big Block GM and make a lot more power in the process.

Yeah in 07 the silverado was updated, the ram was the same since 02 pretty much. I would get the silverado. The ram and f150 weren't updated till 09, but the 07 f150 interior isn't bad, but the 5.4 engine leaves some to be desired compared to the hemi.

Yes... I agree the silverado has a better finish and also a higher price tag. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 with the hemi... 14mpg city and 12mpg towing my 23xti... 18mpg highway... great and cheap truck.

Everything is relative, you need to remember that. You'll never get Honda Civic mileage from any larger displacement small block V8, regardless of manufacturer. Yeah, I know with cylinder deactivation nowadays it's better, but again, better compared to what, a 4 cyl or v6 that you can't tow or haul with?

It all comes down to how you drive it and what you use it for. City driving, don't bother. Occasional towing and otherwise sitting in the driveway, go for it. This is true of all the brands. My wife's Grand Cherokee has the later model 5.7 Hemi, and she get's decent mileage if she tries hard. If you drive it like a rented mule, you know what to expect.

We had an 04 Durango loaded with thunder road package, big wheels and tires, and some performance mods, and we got 14 city 20 highway 18 combined. I think it had 370 horsepower.
