Anyone using a brake controller or otherwise?

I agree. You won't be adding alot of tongue weight going from the VLX to MXZ however having towed both there is a considerable weight difference. Just make sure the trailer is riding level behind the truck. The brakes on the Boatmate work great so I wouldn't worry too much. I have airbags on my F-350 Diesel and do not have the automatic compressor. I rarely change the pressure in them and typically leave them around 30psi and I tow alot of different trailers. The airbags make the trucks ride harder even at 30 psi.. If the boat is the only thing you tow I would leave the suspension as is.. If you do install the airbags make sure you install the compressor as well for easy inflating and deflating...

I have a good bicycle pump I use on mine. 30psi levels my truck with the boat. 100psi levels the truck with the boat and the cabover. The airbags hold such a little amount of air that it take no time to use the bike pump. The pump I have has a built in gauge on it.
