2008 VLX SPEAKER SEPERATION HELP

Hey guys I have a 2008 VLX with 8 in boat speakers ran off one amp, 2 tower speakers ran off another amp, and 1 12" sub ran off a third amp. All the equipment is Rockford. As of right now I can control the sub with a manual controller. What I am looking to do is to make it so I can control the interior speakers off a separate control and the sub off a separate controller. This would make it so that the tower speakers are controlled with the head unit volume and all the other speakers would be controlled with manual controllers. What I am trying to accomplish is being able to make my tower speakers loud and the rest of the speakers not as loud. I have seen that you can get this with the wet sounds equalizer, but I would think there might be another way to accomplish this. Thanks ahead of time.

LC1's will work. But you will need quite a bit of long RCA runs to make it work. You can go with an Exile ZLD, WS 420 or any other budget minded EQ like the clarion unit to get what you are after. You will end up with fewer long RCA runs that way. I like the ZLD.

Certainly all dedicated or zone controls will have to be used after the master volume & remote controls. The Wetsounds EQ that you mentioned will give you all the control you want plus many additional features that you may or may not want. And there are any number of automotive-based EQs that will provide the same basic zone control functions. And you can add a couple of passive controls under the driver's dash where they are most convenient to use, like the PAC LC-1s. With a factory source unit having a weak preout section, and by adding the passive controls, you are adding 17' To and 17' From cables, and you are further dropping the preout voltage from the extra 34' of cables, not a lot but still a difference. A great alternative is the Kicker line driver or the JL Audio line driver. With either you will not extend the signal path as the driver's side controller is only running voltage and is not in the signal path. Plus, you get a big jump in signal voltage which can improve the bass strength and improve overall dynamic range.

Thanks for all the input so far. It sounds like I need to make a decision. Do the equalizers need to be mounted under the steering wheel so they can be adjusted when you want different sound levels? Or do you need to run the LC1's with thte equalizers? Thanks

You don't need the LC1's with the EQ's or zone controlers. They do need to be mounted within reach if you want to be able to adjust them.

OK. Thanks Bobby Light. One more question. In my boat i have four areas where I can adjust the volume. Will i still be able to adjust volume with all these remote controls once i have my ranges set on the equalizer?

Yes your remotes will still work, it becomes a bit trickier but once you get the hang of it it's no big deal. The problem becomes when it's set up like that having so many adjustment options via remotes and EQ. If you set it up and learn how to adjust it correctly it won't be a big deal.

All four control locations will be functional exactly as they are now, but all four control locations will be global in that they will continue to impact ALL zones. All of the EQ, level control and line amp controller options can give you the same independent zone to zone control so at times you are going to want to use each or any of the three controls (in-boat, sub and tower) in isolation. And that is the reason why the controller, in one form or another, must be extremely convenient to use....like underdash. It needs to be quick and at your fingertips.

Hey Guys, I was looking into my speaker situation a little further this weekend and found that on my amp for my cabin speakers i have two sets of RCA cables running from it to the head unit. So how would this work for the Equalizer since the equalizer only has three outputs and i technical have 4. ( sub, tower, and 2 cabin.) Thanks

on your cabin amp you will have one set of Rca coming from the deck and going into Rca splitters to make 2 Rca connections at your amp . You will wire eq exact same way

Because you only have 3 Rca channels coming out of you head unit, front, rear, and sub. Your 4 channel amp will be using the front chanel Rca from your deck ,your towers will use rear, and sub will use sub and because it has to go into 4 channels it has to use Rca splitters to make the 4 channels, some 4 channel amps will have a switch to use the two channel input rca,s into 4 channel but the Rockford does not so they have to split the signal with y splitters. Hope this makes sense to you
