Wakeboard...Makes a difference?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I've had the same wakeboard for 5 years. It's a Ricky Gonzalez Pro Gator board. Not one of the most popular but it feels good and has some awesome graphics, not that the looks help me what so ever. I'm embarrassed to say that after 5 years of boarding (3 behind seadoos with no wake) that my best trick is a heel side W2W 180. I'm just trying backsides and this week I went for a tantrum for the first time, came no where near landing it but got over the mental task of actually trying. With Christmas coming up I'm wondering what to treat myself to. For those that have used different boards, do they actually help progress tricks or do I save some money and just admit that if I could do the trick then I could do it on my existing board just as easily/difficult.

Ade.

there are some good sales on at the moment on buywake and evo. I personally believe the new boards help a lot with pop and landings are softer.

I'm riding a 2012 liquid force harley and i love it compared to my previous hyperlite which was 5+ years old.

I have ridden multiple boards this year, I am not that great of a wakeboarder but there is definitely a different feel to each board and length. I prefer a splined middle for softer landings and 142-146 in size. I am 6'1 200 lbs, I currently ride a CWB Transcend (2011). It seems heavy compared to the newer boards coming out. I road a Ronix time bomb this year and really liked it, size 146. Buying a board online is a bit of a risk, once you use it they do not take it back... try and get some demo rides on different models if you can.

btw, my CWB delaminated on two different boards, they replaced the first one, but the second did the same thing and they wont replace it. With this experience I cant recommend CWB anymore, would stay away from them, so many other choices to pick from.

if you have any local boardshops, demo a couple. the shop out by me will let you demo several boards, and if you find one you like, they'll put the amount of money you spent demoing toward the purchase of the board you choose. I still think the liquid force trip is one of the best all around boards, from beginners to advanced. There's a reason it has remained in their lineup for 12 years or so.

Demo.

There are so many factors. I am partial to the Slingshot boards. I have been riding a Recoil for a number of years. I prefer a 3 stage board and like the soft landings the board gives. I demoed a SS Lyman this year and was impressed with the pop off the wake compared to my Recoil. I almost bought one, but I just don't board that much anymore, skiing instead.

+1 for Slingshot, I ride a Recoil too, love it.

Thanks guys, I've checked out the Slingshots and they look pretty interesting. The recoil looks like it would be quite aggressive, which is what I'd like. It looks really thin compared to mine, I also like that it has a wood core compared to a fiberglass composite, probably very lite.
