Changing Oil Viscocity in 08 Hammerhead

Recommended Posts

I was cruising Indmar's website and looked at the 07 and 08 manuals. The 07 calls for SAE40 in the hammerhead and the 08 calls for 15W40. I have an early 08 and must have an 07 manual in my hardcopies for the boat as it calls for SAE40. In the interest of getting into higher spec oils I am intending to transfer to 15W40. I do not suffer any oil pressure issues and have the updated dipstick. Who is running 15W40 in their hammerheads and your thoughts?

I ran 15-40 along with the new and improved dip stick, but from what I have seen, there is such a huge variation from engine to engine, ya gotta experiment to see what works good for you. I had good oil pressure before the new and improved dip stick, so adding another qt made me no difference. I think it more important to check your oil level before heading out each time. Keeping it at the correct level will take care of a lot oil low oil pressure issues.
