Oil pan drain hose cap question

This fall when I winterize (it's really sad to think about this...), I want to replace the brass cap on the oil pan drain hose as it's a little rounded off currently.

Do you guys know the proper thread size that are on it so I can pick one up?

maybe take the cap with you when you go to purchase,....they will be able to determine the thread size....

Bakes probably has a replacement cap....

the plug is either 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch NPT...pretty sure it is 1/4"...any Lowes, Home Depot or hardware/plumbing store will have one. elevate the end, remove the plug and take it with you to the store....a plug should be no more than a $1-2.

FYI You will find a 1/4 or 3/8" NPT cap in Lowes or KD... BUT you will not find one with the nub and hole for keeping the hose top side...

Small hijack...has anyone created an extension to the hose? Mine isn't long enough to reach the rear drain plug. (That sounds bad, I suppose).

If so, how'd you do it?

It would actually be easy, would just need 1/4" female to a barbed fitting & some hose to extend it, I think the hose is 3/8". There isn't pressure so you don't have to worry about oil going everywhere

Have a look at the bottom of the page of the link posted above by teamerickson

There is a standard hose 36" & longer hose 60" option.

Either buy the standard 36" & get a nipple/socket to join the existing to new ( may be easier than getting under the sump) or replace with the longer one.

Saves having to find a hydraulics person to crimp the end fittings.

How the hell is it supposed to work if it doesn't reach the drain hole? What a terrible design!

I suppose. I live in an area where the boat comes out of the water for the winter so oil changes are done on the trailer. Gravity is free and wide spread. I forget that not everyone's ancestors settled in a land where certain time of year the act of going outside without the proper clothing could result in death and some boats stay on the water all year.
