boat fading

Recommended Posts

On our boat, the upper hull above the rub rail continues to fade from the hot sun, we have tried some stuff but doesnt seem to work. What waxes would you guys suggest that works well for you?

fading fiberglass normally cannot be waxed. you have to use an abrasive polish 3M etc. the nufinish is just another brand of polish that imho is overpriced for the size of the container.

Get some polish and either hand rub or get a small polisher (can be messy) and go nuts it will look just like new

Have you been keeping your boat under a cover when not in use or does it sit bare? I live in Phoenix AZ. Nothing holds up for very long in the intense sun and heat here. But a well fitting boat cover made from a solid color Sunbrella fabric helps a lot. I had mine custom made to fit over the tower after folding it down. It also covers down to the waterline. Carnuba wax (not a name brand but an ingredient) is the best I've found and recommended by many auto/boat detailers. Collinite (brand) #925 is especially made for boats and as good as anything I've ever used. I've used 303 also but was not impressed with it. For Upholstery I've been using Lexol Leather Conditioner. In my opinion it is much better than 303. Hope this helps.

. It was only like 8bucks at the auto store. Wife found a bunch at big lots one day for 2bucks a bottle, grabbed 10 so were stuck with it for a but.

Use an oxidation compound on the faded spots. You may need to do 1-3 passes depending on how faded it is. The oxidation compound will strip all the wax off, so be sure to follow up with polish, then a few coats of wax.
