Rebuild or replace alternator

Recommended Posts

The bearings are going out on my stock alternator and debating just buying a new one or finding a local shop to rebuild it.

I honestly don't know how much I trust a small automotive shop to know exactly what is supposed to be different on the marine stuff.

Also how big can I go without having to swap to a serpentine pulley?

The biggest difference is that your marine alternator has been USCG certified to operate safely in an environment where explosive fuel vapors can collect.

Cowwboy.......I have a 200 amp alternator that is v-belt driven. It charges 2 Blue Top D31M batteries which feed my sound system of (3) 500 watt amps and (1) 800 watt amp. The belt never slips and my batteries stay charged.
