Heater Core

Recommended Posts

My heater core finally bit the dust. It's out of a 04, VLX and is a 2 vent. Does anyone have car part I could use for the new core. I found it in sikdim but don't wanna pay $170 for the core.

Thanks,

Dave

Bummer!! I have an extra three vent sitting in my garage but I'm pretty sure it's bigger. A good radiator repair shop might be able to fix it for you if it's not to bad or have something that would work for you.

Take the old core to a local Napa or CarQuest type auto parts store & ask them to cross reference it. We've done it a couple times & found it to be something like a 79 Ford pickup heater core. Both are still goin strong years later.

I wrote down part # 6603100 a long time ago. Might be a place to start looking.

It's a pain in the neck and back but not necessarily in the but. I carry a spare shorth length of hose that I would use if my heater craps out again in a pinch. Just disconnect the hoses to and from the heater on your engine and connect the bypass loop and you are back in business, without heat but also without hot water all over your feet.

I'm not sure if the napa part and the SKIDIM part are the same or not. But I can say I have replaced mine once in 2010 when my boat was 13 years old, and the new one is still fine. Its the SKIDIM part.

My friend buys the napa replacements and seems to go through those every 3 or 4 years. Maybe its differen't winterization procedures, but I will buy the SKIDIM part again next time.

Make extra sure your friend never works on any of your stuff. There is nothing wrong with the Napa cores. I've never seen one get replaced a second time.

I agree. The hardest part was finding where the screws were in the kick plate at the driver's feet. The contorsioning was literally a pain in the neck. :)
