Im new to this site so hope im posting in the right spot but i have a 1996 Malibu response and just got into surfing and am looking to try and play behind this boat (nothing professional) anyway I was wondering if the transom was different on the boats with a wedge or without a wedge. The big question is if I did find a wedge could I add it to my boat without redoing the back of the boat. Thanks

How thick is the transom? Do you need a jig to make sure you the the bolts through straight? Or is it thin enough that you can just hold the drill and get it straight enough to bolt the plates together?

I happen to have a complete wedge for sale. Wedge, bracket, backing plate, bolts, nuts, washers - everything you will need (except tools to install it and sealant). PM me if interested.

Just to let you know the wedge helps a lot out on the boat, our family owns a '96 response lx and an '03 vlx, before we got the vlx we had the wedge installed on the response and it was great for intermediate wakeboarding. As for surfing you will still need ballast bags to help. We had a 550 and could have used more. One thing to check before you go goofie side surfing is your air vent for your gas tank is back there...we put it under water due to ballast. It luckily didn't cause a huge problem because it bogged the engine and we immediately shifted. Just my .02, but overall its a great addition to that boat
