Figured I would share a recent video to the forum. Haven't footed much this year yet so I'm a little rusty. At the beginning I fall mid one foot to left, but managed to make it to my back! It was a narrow stretch of river with and S curve and a boat came around the corner, so we had to slow down really quick.

A little rusty......lol......lol.....very nice or a little rusty, you had great water to boot!

Thx for sharing.....I'm in my second week of three at the lake and we've had a lot of wind. Not

a lot of footing.... :(

Thanks Dare. Water was pretty awesome. Warm and not a ripple to be seen except for the one boat at the beginning.

Hopefully you get some better water. Seems to me like the next 4 weeks are when I get my best skiing in!

Thanks for the advice JB. I actually noticed that to. Seems like on the water it's harder to tell where you are along with your limbs! Haha. Currently nursing a very sprained right ankle so that might be part of it.

A sprained ankle, and we are still footing.... Gotta Love it.....

We footers are crazy are we not....

It is truly an addiction that we can not get enough of...

How fast are you footing, what do you guess you were doing when you asked her to slow up a little?

Also, what motor is in your Vette?

While the Pros are amazing to watch with all of their mad skills, I find it much more rewarding to watch us normal (I say that loosely) people barefooting!

Thanks for Sharing your Video

I foot at 43 mph. That's GPS verified. When I told her to slow up we were going about 46-47 mph according to my brother who was in the boat. Not sure if you could see my face before I stood up but I knew we were halling. That was the 2nd time she had ever hit the throttle on our boat so she was still getting used to it.

It has the 383 Callaway.....it's a thing of beauty!

  • 2 weeks later...

So with all this talk of learning to barefoot with a swing on the boom, I got up this morning and made a swing out of a 2X4 and some rope. The wind was all wrong for footing today, but that shouldn't stop anyone, right? I tried it first to set the height, and I forgot to tell my son to not turn left. It didn't take long for him to turn left and dunk me, but I had already figured out just how easy it was on the swing.

My son was nursing a sore shoulder, and he had memories of his attempt at holding the boom without a swing, so he declined a try on this trip. A wakeboarding group in a Centurion came over to say hello (we had met them on the water a few months ago), so after we skied a bit I went back over to them and asked them if they wanted to try barefooting. Both of the men in the group immediately said yes.

Cut these guys some slack, because 1) they didn't watch me do it first, 2) it was really too rough to bother barefooting, and 3) I had never tried coaching someone on a swing before. I did explain to both of them that if it were glass calm, they would both have gone as long as they wanted, because both of them had clearly figured it out. I'm calling it a success, and hopefully they can try again on a better day. Please don't critique their posture or anything until I can get them out again.

Victim "C" had PRK done on his eyes a few weeks ago, so he wanted to wear a face mask. It turned out to be a good idea anyway, so Victim "S" decided to use it also. They got situational awareness a little easier without the water flooding their eyes. I was proud of both of them for giving it a try even though the water was terrible. Great work, Victims "C" and "S"!

Seeing the board fall so low and climb up his back would make me very nervous. When I had my daughter (who was 12 and had severe scoliosis ) sit in a handle to try barefooting she did a good job of keeping it right under her butt. The water was rough then too, but it worked flawlessly. I agree, it was success. Whenever I get the guys from work to try it they always just brute their way through it and get really sore. It's hilarious lol

Gary, do you have shoe skis? Progressing from shoe skis and then to feet is the way to go when first learning. For beginners learning the correct positions at slower speeds is really helpful. Especially kids!

"The Dark Side" haha....

I always try and explain the feeling to people who ask, "whats it feel like?"

For me, when you finally get to your feet, it feels like you all of the sudden go into slow motion. The only thing you are thinking about is your feet and the water. Your body is so focused on thing your mind can't be anywhere else because a 43mph face plant is inevitable.

Then when(no "if" it happens eventually) fall everything speeds back up. And you realize just how fast you were going! LOL

So you wanna see a FACE plant do you....

this was my 2nd to last run yesterday after 2 great days of footing and just footing with total ease and confidence...I was trying to THINK (that was my 1st mistake) about where my foot position is because I have been struggling with 1 foot wake crosses, so at the end of 28 seconds into the video I decided to LOOK down at my foot.....bad idea...HAHAHA

Dare2GoBare, this one is for YOU! you sick sadistic B@$tard!
