Higher Speed Prop for 04 RLXI

Recommended Posts

I am running the factory prop on a 2004 RLXI. We are footers, and would like a bit more top end. Any recommendations as to a prop which accomplish that without too much hole shot loss?

Dallas is pretty much sea level so elevation shouldn't matter but we need to know:

What engine?

What's your current top speed and RPM?

What is the "stock prop"? Is it CNC or cast, NiBraL or stainless steel?

Sorry

Dont have the boat here and won't for 3 weeks.

I can tell you the engine is a 340 Monsoon.

Top speed is 43-44. Was a little faster before I put a Scarpa plate on

Cannot answer other questions until i get in the same place as the boat.

Thanks!.

You should be able to get mid-high 40s out of that setup with the right prop--which should be the Acme 515 or OJ 330 I think--the only thing I don't know for sure is how the SSP might change that.

If you were trying to get something for your next trip in three weeks I believe both companies have an exchange program if you buy one and end up needing something slightly different. As long as you buy directly from them, that is.

Also if you search there is some great info here:

When you are at 43-44 mph what is the engine speed? The sweet spot is right around 5-5200 rpm so depending on which side of the curve you are on will depend on what prop change you will want to make. Add some pitch if you are spinning faster, take some out if slower. Are you running a 3 blade, if not that would be the first change.

Okay

I have a 13 by 12 factory prop. Not sure of brand

Doing about 5100 Rpms

Have tower, fly high and ssp

Will do between 45.6 and 46.3

Will hold 44.6 with a footer on the back

And it's probably stainless. You didn't say how much more speed you are looking for, but you could come up to 12.5 or 13 pitch and maybe get a few MPH. I'd try 13 first.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have a stainless prop now and switch to nibral of the same pitch, you may actually lose a little speed due to drag because the blades are a bit thicker.
