Normal key operation - '06 guages

Recommended Posts

I'm fairly new to this boat - bought it last fall and put 10 hours on, and have 10 hours this year.

But its my first malibu, coming from a few different tournament brands.

Question is with how the key position works.

My ignition key has the following sequence from Left to Right (Accessory, Off, On, Start)

Seemingly everything works according to this, however if were wakeboarding and using the perfect pass and you change riders - turn off boat by turning key to "Off" from the previous "On" position, the guages all go dead and turn off.

So that seems perfectly normal, however the guages take a long time (2-3 seconds - okay i'm impatient) to reset, and also the perfect pass (or malibu cruise) automatically turns off, so you need to remember to turn back on again.

Is there anyway to rewire this so when you turn the engine off it goes to a mode where guages are still on and active so they dont need to reset.

I was thinking a different key sequence form Left to Right (Off, Accessory, On, Start) would address that. Do I need a different ignition switch or can i move the leads around.

Wondering if this is normal or perhaps if it the ignition switch had been swapped out previously.

Cheers,

Just joined today and this was one of the things I was wondering as well. Mine does it too. Long delay when you turn the switch on. Mine seems like around 5-7 seconds before the display even comes on.

This is normal for these gauges and boats of these years i believe it is due to the medallion gauges reseting themselves.

Thanks guys for confirming, figured it was normal - how the boat electrical was designed.

I had an '07 supra before and the guages on power-up took the same long delay. However with how the key was setup it didnt kill the guages when you powered off - it went to Accessory mode which left guages active.

Anybody with experience rewiring this?
