Alternator removal help needed. 09 VTX LSV

Recommended Posts

My alternator needs to be replaced. I have removed the adjuster bolt and the top retainer bolt.

The alternator is loose and will move freely but will not drop out! It looks like there is a sleeve of some sort that is keeping it from coming out. {the top bolt holding the alternator in place goes thru the sleeve}.

How do i get the sleeve out? or do I push the sleeve in to get the alternator out?

Thanks in advance!

There is a small sleeve that is "used as a spacer" on the head end of the main bolt. It is used to tighten the main bolt down to the alternator support. It finally came loose after using a small pry bar to move the alternator. I hope this makes some since to everyone... Maybe my adventure will help someone else.
