Has anyone added racing fuel for added performance?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone added 110 octane racing fuel to add performance to the engine?

I have a 2006 247 with a 383 hammerhead engine. Sometimes I add 10 gallons to my tank (70 gallons) and fill up the rest with premium fuel. Runs great!

Run great but do yoo really see that much of a difference? Or a better question ...what is the difference? Hole shot, top end, sound?

I only run 87 octane and have zero issue. Boat runs great.

Here is the myth of racing fuels, Or higher octane fuels, On high compression engines if you run a fuel that has a lower octane it will perform poorly and can cause some damage, The Octane slows down the burn and allows the piston to reach its optimum range before ignition, If not you get what we call pinging, or a knocking sound, and poor performance, on the other side, if your engine is not designed for higher Octane it too will perform poorly because the ignition burns to slowly robbing you of Power, And if you go with a fuel with too much Octane that would be a waist and no real performance gained, We have a guy in town and owns a racing shop, He enlightened me on the subject, People think it works better when in fact it dose not, So put the correct fuel in your boat and it will perform like it was designed, Any more is a big waist of $$$

100% waste of money. You actually are making less power on that 110 octane than just running 93, unless you were to bump your timing for the increase in octane.

not a waste if it gives off that av gas smell as you cruise thru the channel.

It IS a waste. They sell fuel additives if you want a specific smell that's a lot cheaper than running 110.

The lowest octane your engine will run on correctly will give the best engine performance. I do love the smell though. My wife spends big money on candles for the house so why not put a little race fuel in for the channel.
