Anyone decode Spotify File Format?

Hey everyone,

I am a big spotify fan lately and have used the "download" feature to store music locally. Rather than take an expensive device on the boat and use Bluetooth to play it, I would like to fill up cheap flash drives and plug into my Sony head unit. I can see the file locations on my computer, but they use a cryptic file format and a .file extension. Anyone successfully renaming/changing them to .mp3 to burn or copy? Google didn't give me much help...

Good question. I figured out how to get music from pandora while on the computer but I haven't tried spotify. I suspect that any answer will be piracy since you only should be able to listen to it using their software.

Spotify just got blasted because people were able to download the soungs off of their software through a security flaw. Spotify closed that up real quick. I am guessing the answer to your question is no.

I have a small shuffle that I use for snowboarding, really wish i could get my playlists on that. Good Luck

There was a Chrome plug in that allowed it... and that is now fixed. There seems to be another way though

If you are downloading songs against the terms of use anyway, why not just download them off of a Torrent site? Seems a lot easier and you have a better chance of getting the exact bandwidth you want for your music.

If Spotify didn't charge freaking $10/month for mobile streaming I would be all for it. Pandora + Pandora Skip hack does what Spotify can't...stream commercial free for free.

There are some programs that will allow you to record the music that plays through you audio card. Some will clip and tag the tracks for you. Its old school, think high school mix tape you have to listen to every track or just let it go while you sleep, but it works and you get a mp3 file out of it.

I have heard of a Chrome plugin that can be converted, but I forgot its name. I have been using the online tool VK Music Saver to convert MP3, it is free. By the way, Mp3fy is no longer applicable.

There are no chrome extension to convert spotify to mp3.

You don't carry a phone on the boat?  I'd be way more worried about not having a phone in an emergency.
