Bimini

The forum on the illusion bimini got me to thinking about the color. Most bimini tops I see are dark colors. I know on the illusion the black blends with the tower. That seems to be a perfect match. But on other towers the majority are dark colors with black being pretty dominant.

So my question is why are they always dark. Is there a reason other than a preference on looks. I have been under dark awnings on a porch and the heat they retain will cook you. It would seem that a light color would be better to sit under. Also seems like a light color would hold up better and be easier to take care of.

Dark colors do a better job of blocking the light. Yeah, it will be hot to the touch, but underneath it will be cool (or cooler depending on how hot the day really is). If you have a light colored bimini, it tends to let more light through - the dark ones just perform better in this regard. As for the care issue, I think that's pretty much a wash (no pun intended). Both light & dark will each show certain stains more than the other, & both have their pros & cons as to the actual wear.

We went w/ a mocha color and seems to hide the dirt. I'v been under some that are black and I can feel the additional heat. Just make sure to apply 303 fabric guard to help keep it clean and beads the water off.
