wakeboarding helmets for kids.

Does anyone have any suggestions for helmets for my 6 year old son. His head is about 51 cm. Do they make them this small? Would a good bike helmet do the same thing? ( I know that's ghetto lol  ) just want to get the jump on this now in case I have a hard time finding one. Thanks everyone.. :)

If you can find a small one, bike or non-watersports I don't know if it matters too much aside from the weight. You may have more luck getting a Pro-Tec skate helmet before a wake one, just more popular over the years and may have more sizes.

If you buy any non-wake one, think about what it will weigh when wet before deciding. Helmets are very dangerous if not fitted properly and used incorrectly.

Also, I recommend something with ear flaps - that's where the real protection comes in.

The ProTec sizing chart is below:

Small 53-54 cm

Med 55-56 cm

Large 57-58 cm

XL 59-60 cm

My son started wearing his at age 8. (Size small) But he's got a big noggin' like his dad.

The Ace Wake has the removable ear flaps. (Strongly recommended). The Ace Water is the same helmet, minus the ear flaps.

If you get one, try and get the 2005 model or later. They improved the inner support, as well as expanding their sizes. (prior to 2005 they combined SM/Med and LG/XL so only had 2 sizes instead of 4)

Biggrin.gif Thanks for the imput. I never took into account the weight when wet. Would it be irresponsible to not have him in a helmet? Dontknow.gif I think I'll look into the pro tech and try to see if I can't find one of them that'll fit. Thanks again :)

DFP--your avatar is sooo funny! is that a great dane, greyhound or ??? just tooo funny!

my girls dont wear helmets, but they are not aggressive, dont do any sliders and hold thier noses when they fall, we just dont pull any of the kids fast enough to backslap thier heads, i dont recall them even getting stung by a faceplant. that just us here. :)

good luck!

I'm glad you like my avatar. It is a Great dane. I love it  We have a great dane and seeing this big boy on the tiny chair is hiliarious. I appreciate the imput on the helmets. He is going to be just starting to wakeboard, and I'm just wanting to make sure I've got him protected. Thanks again. I guess we'll just roll with it.
