help removing seat slider rails / adding seat riser 05 VLX

Recommended Posts

I'm adding the seat riser as pictured and while I was in there figured I'd paint or powder coat the seat slider lock arm. I can't seem to figure out how to get that off - I have it stripped down to the rails but its a carriage bolt type top or a rivet maybe. I can't figure out how to release the top slide so the top rail will slide off the bottom rail. Any suggestions please?

it started lightning so I bugged out of the marina and didn't get a pic after I'd taken off the two aluminum mounting plates. I have it stripped down to the rails at this point, just didn't have time to grab a pic of it.

I also noted the swivel lock mechanism seems to be riveted to the upper most plate in the pic, but since i can get to both sides of that I figured I'd just drill it out and remount with a nut/bolt - also appreciate any suggestions from someone who's done that as well.

Dam, I don't blame you for wanting to clean that up. I had mine apart a few years ago but can't offer any solid advice without seeing under that cover. If your locking lever looks like that, you might consider just replacing the sliders, they can't be very good shape...?

Sliders work fine, but visually its very noticeable to me...and with working on boats being the noble endeavor that it is, I just couldn't bolt it all back together on top of that ugly looking arm.. the marina has a bead blaster of some sort for the moment which would surely save me a huge waste of time sanding... just need some community help with the rare "remove it without tearing it up" technique.. posted in the general discussion area in hopes of reaching the guy who knows how this works..

On my boat there is a round circular cap located between the two seat rails that is removable to provide access below. I recall it being a half turn to remove and allow your hand to get through to access the bottom side. The sliders are held on with 2 nyloc nuts on the bottom side.
