I am looking at ordering a 2013 VLX this week. I am fairly new to surfing and want to know if this boat will kick up a good enough surf wave to keep me happy for years to come?

Go demo the boat with surfgate, make sure and bring some extra weight for the rear lockers. 550s in each rear locker, full quads and wedge all the way down, 10.3-10.7 mph is supposed to be a good setup on the vlx with surfgate.

Truly if you are looking for the ultimate surf boat I would look at a Tige or Supreme. The vlx or lsv will produce a nice surf wake but all surf comps are being towed by Tige and Supreme.
