trailer repairs

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I did some long needed trailer repairs. I replaced the entire brake assemblies including drums, backing plates complete and bearings. I used new parts from Tie Down Engineering. I just thought I would pass on that the repair went well and the parts worked great. I would recommend their parts.

do you have approximate costs for parts. i had to rip the brakes off my trailer cuz the drums were frozen solid from salt water...

I just did this on my SMP trailer which has disk brakes. I bought parts from Napa. The pads were a good fit but I'd love to meet the brake caliper designer in a dark alley. Man what a PITA.

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures, it was a dirty frustrating job and I probably would have ended up breaking the camera along the way. I was pretty good at it by the 4th wheel though, maybe I can do it one more time with the camera for a tech article.

Unfortunately I did not take any photos along the way. I am not very mechanical so I had the engineer at my office give me a hand. The parts cost approximately $500 CDN. They fit together perfectly with no troubles whatsoever. If you google Tie Down Engineering, you will find the company. I am not affiliated with them, but thought I would pass on a note regarding good products.
