Bow Speakers

I have a 2006 wakesetter vlx 21.5' I am wanting to install bow speakers. I know the 23' vlx's have cutouts for them but i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the 21.5' vlx's also do? thanks

IRC they have the holes behind in the glass, but the vinyl is not cut. Just push around where they should go and you will be able to tell. I used to be able to stick my arm up the sides and feel around also.

Sure it can be done. It's more of an exercise and techniques will vary boat to boat. You have to verify that you have clearance behind. You have to determine if someone seated will be covering the speaker and if it needs to be recessed. You should know the depth of the foam padding on the bolster as to not wrinkle the vinyl if the speaker is recessed in too far. You may have to control the depth. There are considerations for cutting and terminating the vinyl, separately cutting the foam, cutting the HDPE bolster backing and cutting the fiberglass mold.

There is no way I can retain the specifics on that over every model/year during that span.

As another option, a few have built speaker baffle panels or quasi enclosures to place a pair of coaxials in the bow coaming pockets.

Why don't you investigate where you have a fit without obstructions, take a few pics and then decide on the best technique for that particular location.

Does anyone know if the later models have all wiring and amp power in place to add the speakers for the walk-thru? I have a 2011 w sound pack 2. In hindsight i should have gotten the 3. Looking at the wiring harness under driver and observer side, it looks like the speaker wires are already there. Can it be that simple? Do i really only need to cut holes for the speakers and plug-in the 2 wires? No amp stuff to hook up?

i assume the speakers Malibu uses are the Rockford Fosgate M262B. i found them for < $200 pair (amazon.com).

Aquajung,

Yes, the boat should be pre-wired for the walk-thru speakers and they will be wired in parallel to the bow pair. If your bow speakers are working, then you will just need to plug up the new pair. Yes, the OEM would have been the M262B. There will probably not be any extra wiring for additional amp, you will need to do all of that if you are going to install that additional amp
