Electric Boat Lift. Which one?

I'd like to install an electric motor on my boat lift. I've got an LSP (Lake Shore Products) lift with a canopy. It has the manual wheel to crank the boat up. I'd like to put on an electric motor, I have 110 within 20 ft of the lift so power isnt an issue. I'm considering the direct drive type, not the friction wheel set-up.

Is there one that is better than others, and which ones do I stay away from? For those that have the remote control option, do you like it/ use it?

Thanks in advance.

Lift Tech makes a good 'direct drive' AC winch that easily replaces your wheel without needing to replace or recable the winch.

Give scott or isaac a call at feighner docks and lifts: 1-800-boat-lift. They are within an hour of Leroy, are good people, and know this stuff well.

Love my Lift Tech drive motor. Makes it so much nicer using the lift. I am disappointed in the FOB remote option though, poor range and seams to cut out randomly......not sure I would pay for the option again.

Good to know. I am leaning toward to Pendant option, that looks like it would be really convenient. The LiftTech looks like a good outfit. I appreciate the responses. Thanks.

I know this is an old post, but I am looking into an electric motor for my Shorestation lift and found this topic in my search.

Is there a advantage/disadvantage of a friction wheel? Also, I have power in my boat house about 50ft from the lift...is it worth running power or going with DC?

After havinig the Lift Tech direct drive motor for this summer, I can say I really like it and would recommend it. Simple, quiet, works well.

The friction style turned me off because all the exposed wheel spinning around, was thinking safety and not getting anything pinched or hung up in the spinning wheel.

I bought the pendant option, and I would again. Makes lifting the boat a breeze. Just pull in and grab the pendant from the driver seat. The boat lifts and you are finished.

Seems like prices were very comparible with the friction style as well.

Make sure if you get the Lift Tech, you get the newest model. It has a "soft start" feature unlike their older ones.

And just like Sixballs, if power is lost, a battery operated drill can be used.

Takes about a minute to go 3 ft or so. I am happy with the speed, its not really fast so less chance of things going wrong in a hurry. I usually let one of my crew or my son hold the button as it goes up, gives me a chance to wipe the boat down and take care of things.

Went with a 100v LiftTech for my 4,000 lb. Shorestation lsat year as well and added the pedant. I'd definitely do 110v over 12v again w/ power even close to being in the vicinity. Much faster lifting and you don't have the added cost of a battery and solar panel.
