Some people with the turndown tips actually say you can hear the stereo better when boarding because of the reduced engine noise. It should be a good test, both of my last boats had the rubber flaps.

I have the turndowns on my LSV. The boat being noticeably quieter a

Than my previous boat with a monsoon was the first thing I noticed on the test drive. My reaction was WOW this thing is quiet. Maybe it's just me lol.

Am I the only one that likes the throaty rumble of a V8 on the water?????

I love the sound of an inboard, and the burble of the water in the flaps. I think I read somewhere that martinarcher took off his custom mufflers and is running straight exhaust.

Incidentally, the flaps serve a mechanical function....they're not just decorative. The flaps are designed to prevent the ingress of water up the exhaust system. This can happen with a large wave coming at the boat stern to. Without flaps there is a (small) risk of water progressing up the exhaust system, and even into the piston cylinders where an exhaust valve is open. If water entered the piston cylinders then there's a chance for hydolock and damage to the engine. It's happened before.
