How to access transmission cooler screen

Recommended Posts

Could someone please point me in the right direction? I have pulled most of the hoses during winterization but have never run across this screen. Boat is an 08 LSV w. Monsoon. Thanks!!

If you are asking about the transmission cooler which has a screen in it, it should look like this:

There maybe a screen inside the bottom of the transmission, but the discussions about that indicate it is not accessible without pulling the transmission.

Should be located on starboard side nearest the transom on yours. Rather than a screen, unless the design changed, I would describe it as more of a honey cone shaped material inside. I know theres a pic of the inside around here.

There is a screen at the bottom of the transmission that the manual refers to.... agree it is not really accessable but can be done..... it is not done/cleaned normally due to accessability and the gasket is a poor design... if it is not leaking don't break it. The pictures of the cooler is not a a screen or strainer just the inherent design of the heat exchanger tubes that fortunately catches the larger debris.

^^^ yea what he said. THe pictures above is a heat exchanger. It is what your raw water runs through the tubes and trans fluid on the shell side which cools the fluid back to the trans. The screen is on the bottom of the trans and it NOT easy to get to .

the water line from the raw water pump to the transmission cooler hangs low below both and debris can be collected in there and only get's pushed again the cooler 'screen' when the engine is running. I take that hose completely off and make it's clear.

^^^good point^^^ I remove that hose during winter lay-up because I don't want water collecting in that low spot. It could freeze and crack that hose which would lead to a real problem first time out next year if the crack went unnoticed.
