Thoughts on heater

so I wanted to post up somewhere that I FINALLY got to validate my heater circ pump install today. I used a shower pump that I got from another member here. I'm also daisy chaining two heater cores. My heater is setup as an "on-off" proposition, so hi or nothing (orange wire only). The second heater core and circ pump are separately powered off of a relay that's triggered from the orange wire for heater core #1.

Anywho, I summerized the boat today and of course tried the heater. At first I got NUTHIN. Turns out I'd set the pump up to pull from the engine circ pump instead of push to it. So I did a little hose jui jitsu, and tried again. Wow, the difference at idle is nothing short of amazing. There was legitimate hot air coming out of the heater vents. This was only idling on the hose, so the motor only gets so hot. Before this mod it was more like "yeah, I think it feels kinda warm, right?" Now there is no mistaking hot air blowing out.

This should be great on a heatsoaked motor on a cool day... should blow hot for a while. Hoping to git her on the water next weekend.

Sweet! I like it.... nice work, is the pump noisy or fairly quiet? I actually have a pump I need to install as well, having constant hot air coming out the vents will be such a nice improvement. What is the AMP draw on that pump? You must have some serious heat coming out with two different cores.... lets see the entire setup!

Heatercraft says the pump draws 7.5 amps max. You can hear it but it's not as noisy as an impeller ballast pump. It's as noisy as a shower pump is, you know?

I'll try to get a few decent pics this week, but the system is pretty simple. 2 vent core in the observers compartment with a hot tube up out of a former cupholder position on the dash and another tube down on the seat base. The other core is mounted behind the driver... Basically where the cooler is on the vlx. There's one hot tube there, and another vent right under the steering wheel. The third vent isn't being used right now because I'm not sure where I want the fourth hot tube yet.

I also installed a circ pump under the helm by the heater core. It's connected to its own circuit and turns on via a relay from the blower. It's super quiet and man.... It does an AWESOME job at throwing heat out even at idle. This heater is a Must-Have now, especially in Canada.

The other thing must-havy is the hot

shower... I used it on Saturday when I went for my first ride... The water temp was 55 and spraying some hot water down the wetsuit felt oh-so-nice!
