Boat Title and Registration

So its about time to hit the water and I don't want anymore reasons to be bugged by the law.

When I bought the boat two years ago it was from a private party that delt with my bank. The bank told me that they would be taking care of all the DMV stuff. Well, I have never recieved a new registration or anything with my name on it to show that I am the "owner" of the boat. I know the bank generally holds the title with cars and other toys, so I assume that it is the same with the boat. The only thing that I have is a bunch of loan papers and that will probably get me nowhere if I walk into DMV. If anybody has a clue where I should start I would really appreciate it.

No change of ownership forms in those loan docs? Maybe a call to the bank to confirm that they have the title and that your address is listed for DMV notification purposes. The DMV is notorious for not getting the marine registration stickers processed and in the mail in a timely manner, so the fact that you haven't received the new stickers comes as no shock. However, assuming your county levies a personal property tax on boats, if you have not received a tax notice and bill for the boat since you've owned it then something got missed.

Are you a member of Auto Club (AAA)? They're great at sorting through this kind of thing and much more pleasant than a visit to the DMV!

Good luck.

No change of ownership papers.

I have moved twice since then so maybe a trip to AAA is in order. Another plus to AAA is the girls are much better looking. Yahoo.gif

I didn't receive my stickers from the DMV. So I went to AAA and was out the door in 10 minutes with my stickers in hand :)
