My XTI (2002 - 23') has the fuel filter behind a removable panel in the rear trunk. Easy to change - a few screws to remove the panel and it's right on top of the fuel tank. I just changed it to start the season. I have the Hammerhead engine. You have a fuel filter under the removable floor panel by the exhaust?

Mine is under the floor pannel by the exhaust, easy to get too. If it is pinched you might try gently pulling it up with the fuel lines. Mine is above the point of being pinched and the fuel lines are held up so the filter does not fall to the point of being pinched.

Good luck and be gentle.
