Big Props to Gerry and AWS in Portland for 23LSV Surfgate Demo

Had the opportunity to experience first hand the demo policy and customer service values at AWS last weekend. I had requested a surfgate demo September from the new local dealer but was not able to ride behind the boat based on insurance coverage restrictions. Several from the TMC community suggested getting in touch with Gerry at AWS...

Was in Portland area last weekend for a quick getaway and decided to drop by the shop with the intention mainly of talking directly with someone who had ridden behind both a sufgate and non-surfgate boat for comparison. Showed up unannouced on Saturday afternoon in street clothes and with no gear. Temp was low 50s with intermittent heavy rain. After some introductions and a short background discussion, Gerry quickly suggested and convinced us to take a boat out and ride - despite the weather conditions. Within about 30 minutes, he had grabbed drysuits for my wife and I off the rack along with a new Bylery surfboard that had been in stock for a couple of days and we were off to the river.

My wife and I both had a great behind the boat demo on a surfgate equipped 23LSV. Setup was factory ballast plus ~700 in the rear on each side and ~300-400 in the bow, speed 11.2, four in the boat. Goofy wave was very impressive, long and a lot of push - especially from behind. Gerry was sharing that he had been playing around with setup combinations to dial in the wave and had recenty surfed with a tape measure at more than 21 feet from the transom with enough push to still go back a bit further. I am sold that surfgate is a game changer and it will be interesting to see what early refinements come about because it is so new.

Thanks again to Gerry and AWS for a great demo!

So the loaded question is...Will Malibu let you buy a brand new boat out of area? It is awesome to hear of such service.
