LENGTH OF A VLX ON THE TRAILER

Can anyone tell me if a garage 24' deep will be long enough to store my vlx on the trailer? We are moving and looking for new houses. A garage is mandatory, and I just wanna be sure a 24' deep garage will do the job. I have the illusion x which folds down, and the trailer has the swing tongue. I wanna leave the fiberglass platform on.

So I could fit her in a 24' deep garage if I drop the platform everytime?...What will I need as far as depth goes to leave the platform on? 26'?

I want to think that if you have 26', leave the platform on and breakdown the pivot on the trailer you will be fine. As I remember mine is about 26' total.

OK so I will have to make sure any house we look at has at least a 26' deep garage, and I can leave the platform on, as long as the swing tongue on the triler is folded in I will be good to go?

Yeah,

And make sure it has a 12' door so you don't have to fold the tower too. Biggrin.gif

I don't have a VLX but I measured my 21'-8" Sunsetter this weekend. The overall measurement came out just over 25' If I remove the platform, and the removable tongue it comes out at 21.5'. This is with the old style wedge in the lowered position. I know the new power wedge is a little longer.

Depending on trailer type, the swing should be equal or behind the nose of the boat. That said the boat is 21'6" and the platform is approx 30 inches. I think that you will be very close for a 24' garage. I think that I would measure your combination boat and trailer or call your dealer for a measurement. It will be much easier to find an existing home with a 24' garage than it will be to find a home with a 26' garage. My brother has a 02 sunscape and it will fit in a 24' garage but then again he also has a teak platform which is narrower than a fiberglass one. Good luck

It's really NOT that big of a deal to take off the swim platform - especially if you found the perfect house with a smaller garage.

Go as long as you can get away with. 24' will be very close (probably won't work with the platform on, the platform is deep on Bu vdrives), go 26' or longer if possible. Ours is 28' long & we can get around each end with stuff hung up on the wall at the rear & the tongue pivoted back. But if you remove the platform & break the tongue, it will probably work (not sure about the length on the power wedge).

I'm not sure what overall length is, but remember if you have the power wedge then the length does not decrease much by taking off the swim step. With my "classic", I can pull the step, and drop the wedge, but the power wedge unit still hangs back quite a ways.

I don't suppose anyone knows if the power wedge could be dropped down when the boat's out of the water? I feel a research thread coming.

The depth of the swim platform is still a bit deeper on the vdrives though, he might get it in a 24' garage if he pulls the platform. Do we have someone that can measure that unit to see how long it is? If it's longer than 18" then it won't work at 24'.

Even if you could, it really wouldn't matter much because of the power "housing" above the actual wedge.

There is no such as the perfect house with a smaller garage

I'd remove the swim platform all day long for a house with a walk-in beer cooler with adjacent wine cellar.

It can be moved, but you need someone to crawl under the boat to put movement on the paddlewheel - this fools the wedge into thinking that the boat is moving.

Just get a really long 60' garage and leave the boat/truck hooked up all the time, oh and add a second door in the back so you can just drive straigh through Yes.gif

My 21'-6" boat and trialer is tough. It's just over 25 ft.

The swim platform is built into the boat with about 20 screws, and the trailer doesn't have a swing-away tounge. Uughh.

I'm looking forward to the day when I can buy a newer bigger boat that will fit in my 24 ft. garage.

Well,

I'm lucky I have a 40' garage.

Oh, by the way, its only single wide and 10 wide x 7 high door.

Too bad about the power house, or whatever.

So you guys have already started talking about my next project-garage lengthening.

It looks very empty right now with no boat...

My garage is 22'5''. The old boat fit in no problem, without the swim platform.

The new VLX, with the power wedge, is 22ft 4", from the bow to the edge of the power wedge, without the platform. I have to have a custom trailer made, with the winch mounted on the removable part of the trailer, so that the bow of the boat is the only thing sticking out.

My garage will be so tight, that I will probably have to cut the rear wall of the garage, and create a cubby hole the depth of the studs, 3 1/2'',plus 1 side of the sheetrock, just for the power wedge. This way I will have a little wiggle room so I don't push the boat into the family room.

All this for the winter months. My baby needs to be warm!!! Biggrin.gif

I have a 24' garage and the 05 VLX fit but had to take the platform off. The 04 Sunscape fit with the platform on. In both cases you need to swing the tongue. Note that an advertised 24' garage is not 24' inside dimension - more like 23.5' Be sure to take a tape measure.
