Shaft seal

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the option list for the TXI and it has "water cooled shaft seal". Could someone explain to me what this is, how it defers from what my old 03 sunsetter lxi had, and if it's worth adding the option?

Thanks,

Ken

First of all, I'm pretty sure all 2013s are getting the watercooled seal standard. If its listed as an option (where?) I think its still listed like the many other things still on there that a build sheet will show as standard (mufflers, MSST, etc.). In either case and if it is in fact an option on the txi the sahft is cooled by a positive water stream from cooling plumbing and does not rely on surrounding water to cool which requires water to come into the bilge. The dripless is far superior in my experience and shouldn't require any maintennace.
