Motorbox Mount

Recommended Posts

Since I bought my boat I noticed a noise and movement in the motorbox on the port side when lifting. I figured something was just loose. Upon motorbox removal (I am going to insulate it), I inspected the "bar" that the motorbox hinges screw into. The bar has 2 screws in it and the fiberglass is chunked out on the port side, the screws are not secured to anything. What would the best repair be? Should I repair with some fiberglass epoxy and drill for a new screw? Or make metal plates (L brackets) that would screw into the stringers and then screw the bar into that? Anyone have thoughts or run into this before?

Thanks

The screws that go into what you referred to as "the bar" were also stripping out on my boat. I drilled through the bar and replaced them w/ ss machine screws w/ backing washer and nylock nuts. Problem solved...quick fix...should probably have come that way from the factory.

(After re-reading the original post...I'm unsure if this is the fix you are after. Is the actual "bar" unfastened? I was assuming it was just the hinge screws that go into the "bar")

It is actually where the bar screws into the fiberglass that is stripped/broken. The bar itself is ok. I appreciate your input!
