So ive never really been a fan of surfing...until now. Haha knee pains shoulder pains and multiple ankle tears all before i turn 24 years old have gotten me into the idea of surfing. I just got my VLX 3 weeks ago and i am new to surf gate research. I'm looking into building it myself, im pretty handy with metal and fiberglass so it shouldnt be an issue at all. The only thing that confuses me is how it works...haha can someone break it down for me fairly quickly...you actuate the goofy side gate to clean up the regular side wave? Weight the boat evenly...? You dont have to completely sack out one side of the boat or the other? Any input helps, sounds like a good winter project for myself

VLX,

Just a suggestion... but there are a few threads that I think could help you without starting another one. Basically start with the "poorman's gate" and then move onto the "teakgate" thread. Also, Google "Centurien (sp?) surf gate" and "Mastercraft surf gate" and you should have access to almost all the current info.

In short, to answer your question the actual surfgate on the 2013 boats requires a person to still weight the boat but you can do it evenly instead of putting all the weight and people on one side. The opposite side gate opens up at a preset speed (I believe 7 MPH) and delays the convergence of the two wakes. By doing this it allows the wave to build up on the opposite side. So far the results have been pretty impressive. -Marc
