Protecting the chrome billet dash

I was wondering if anybody does anything special to protect their chrome dash during the winter. Ours is just starting to pit in one area (barely noticeable), but I want to prevent further damage while in storage.. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Karigjmc, is it chrome plated or polished billet. If it is cp and it is corroding up from beneath the chrome plating means it will require replating eventually, not much to do for it. If it is an external pit or scratch on cp, then you can slow the process by polishing and maybe sealing it with clear laquer, but once again it will need to be replated at some point. Billet = polish + elbow grease and a little wax to slow the oxidation until it is do for a repolishing.

Wipe it down before storing it with a penetrating oil, (seafoam penetrant, all in one oil, whatever you fog with, etc.) It will not stop or repair the problem, but it will slow the oxidation. Just don't get it on vinyl or carpet as it may stain. A light coating now and then works well.

I'm wondering if you couldn't use a paste wax and rub a thickish coat on before storage (do not rub it off). That's what you're supposed to do for the iron on your table saw / drill press to keep it from pitting. I wonder if you could do the same?

This is what I do for all the chrome on my boat: the dash, glovebox, side chrome parts etc. In the spring I come along and rub the wax off and it looks great. Just make sure to use a "chrome" wax. Turtle makes a great one.
