I've only had the one plate go out on me, and I'm not sure that the '02 models had this problem, but if you hear the pop can rattling/ scratching noise that Steve04 talks about, or you find bits of springs running around in your bilge, it's time to worry. Next time you find yourself in the storage locker with a flashlight, look back by the drain plug. I had quite a collection of scrap metal that should have given me a hint that trouble was coming.

Can you define scrap metal? I need to look back under there cause it was quite dirty, not sure if it was metal but deff 12 years of filth. Aren't these all the same indmar / walter set ups? Now I am all paranoid.

From everything I've read, the majority of the boats that have the PP die tend to be 2005 boats.

Racer scrap metal means pieces. I don't think the film in your bilge is a sign to be worried. I personally am going to try to slip a magnet into the housing somewhere and see what comes out. Mines an 05.

02 will have the weak plate installed in it unless it has already been changed, personally I would get the replacement Indmar drive plate as it should be more cost effective.

Yep, pressure on the dealer. I would think a great offer would for them to do it for you immediately at 1/2 price.

The scrap metal that I found were pieces of springs. I'm not sure how they got out of the bell housing, but there was a small handfull back by the drain plug. IMHO, a little paranoia is a good thing. That's how we find the little problems before they become big problems.
