Carpet underneath drivers seat wet!

Recommended Posts

So I was out all day today and on my way back to the dock the carpet underneath steering column was soaking wet! I never noticed it all day just on the way back. I checked ice chest and it was plugged and no water bottle spilled. Front compartments are dry and no water in bilge area. I also checked engine compartment and it was dry! But the carpet is soaked!!!

I checked the hull and it is clear. I have 1 ballast tank in the center of the boat but I did not fill it today. Are there any water lines running underneath the drivers side of boat that might leak?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Boat: 2001 Sunsetter VLX w/MLS center tank

Do you have a heater? Is the water warm? If so, it sounds like the heater core has a leak. It might be (the fittings where the hoses connect to the heater core itself) but more than likely you will need to contact heatercraft for a new core, I did it a year ago on my 2002 VLX. It is not a difficult repair.

Yep. This sounds correct.

It was warm. Did you have to remove the floor to get to it?

You will need to remove the foot rest to get to the heater. The tricky part of this is to find the screws buried in the carpet. Once you get those screws out, the rest is pretty easy.

My heater core is bolted up underneath the dash in front of the steering wheel. I was able to remove it and have it repaired at a radiator shop for about 1/3 the price of a new core.

I doubt its the connection but rather the Heater Core as suggested.. They are fairly cheap and you can bypass the heater by connecting the 2 heater hoses together to form a loop... Many here have added quick connect fittings to their heater lines inside the engine compartment and that works great for this purpose.... You may have to cut the lines rather than pulling them off of the heater. They will be stuck on there pretty good...

Update: New heater installed and no leaks! Removing the kick panel was a pain in the a**!! I spent more time in finding the screws then replacing the core. I took her out to Lake Oroville yesterday and put it thru the paces and ran great. Beautiful day on water and can't wait for some warmer weather. Thank you all for the replys and help!
