Engine overheated at first then worked normally after re-starting

My 2003 Sunscape started to overheat 5 minutes after leaving the launch. Heard beep and noticed temp gauge over 160. I turned off the engine and restarted. The engine started to cool and came back to 160. Ran great the rest of the day (8 hours) no issues. This has happened twice. The first time I thought the intake may have been blocked by weeds. Thoughts?

Sounds like you may have impeller issues. I would replace the impeller and clean out the screen between the impeller and the transmission cooler.

and thermostat could be sticking. check both.

With debris in the cooling it is more likely that the problem would persist. In my case it was a sticking thermostat. Replace.

first launch i typically spin the rpm up to 1200-1400 for a short time to help that suction pump generate some suck.

once it's primed i don't fret it for the rest of the day.
