Perfect Pass causing slack in the throttle cable.

The other night when a buddy was pulling me skiing, after engaging the throttle, the boat surged and would cut out then surge again. Did this a couple of times then basically would just run at idle speed. After jumping back into the boat, I noticed the throttle was very loose and I had assumed a broken cable or broken cable end. After investigating, the cable from the morse to the engine was fine but there was slack in the line that wraps arround the Perfect Pass dial to where it connects to the throttle cable so moving the morse forward was just taking up this slack and not moving the spring loaded throttle lever. Once I tightened the line by turning the perfect pass knob a couple of turns everything was fine. Does anyone have any idea what happened?

There is a set screw on the perfect pass knob that probably came lose. It might be hard to see because its black allen head screw, but if you tighten that up it will keep it from happening again.
