Thermostat replace help

Recommended Posts

I finally have gotten around to changing my tstat....325 monsoon. The tstat cover is a diamond shape w/ three bolts. I took out the 3 bolts expecting for the top "cover" to come off from on top of the tstat. Instead the cover and a "base" came off the block, with the tstat sandwiched inbetween. No biggie...except for only having one gasket. It appears that the base has/had an o-ring of sorts between it and the engind block. I wasn't expecting this. What do I need to do to get things back together correctly?

Geeze...why do these "easy" DIY projects always make me feel like a complete wally.

Just to make sure...

I will need to use one of these http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RM0121 between the lower housing and engine block.

Then I will need to use one of these http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=53-1058 between the lower housing and cover that goes over the tstat.

And is there anything special about the lower gasket that would be different from what an auto parts store would have. Looking at them, they look identical.
